Video: The transformation of Trent Basin is nearing completion
Trent Basin is getting a new lease of life as the completion of its £100m redevelopment edges closer.
Once a part of the National Waterways Network in the 1920s and 1930s until the start of the Second World War, the derelict land is being turned into 45 brand new eco-friendly homes.
Buyers from all across the city have shown an interest in the properties, with eleven having already been reserved, all of which have been loosely styled on Dutch-style canal houses.
Trent Basin project director Peter Conboy said: “The houses are just a few weeks off completion.
“These are homes that people want to move to as there are very few types of house that people can buy near the city centre as it’s mainly apartment-based.
“Our success shows that people actually want to live in houses as we’ve got over 400 expressions of interest in the scheme.”
The homes start at around £230,000 for flats to £345,000 for houses.
Mr Conboy is looking to continue the development as quickly as possible with another planning application already submitted for more homes to be built on the site.
He said: “We’ve just submitted a Phase Two planning application which will continue the riverside part of the development so there will be a number of new homes along the waterfront.
“There will be another apartment block in the corner and altogether another 42 new homes.
“Following that, there will be further planning applications for phases three and four which will take the development around the basin.”
