Locals say a petrol station which has served Stapleford since at least the 1940s will be sadly missed after operators confirmed it will close.
The Sandicliffe petrol station on Nottingham Road will shut – although the garages and car dealership will remain open.
Broxtowe Borough Councillor Richard MacRae said: “I use it all the time it’s the main petrol station for the area. I suppose they haven’t taken the decision lightly but it’s been there for many years and it’s sad.
“I’ve had a lot of local people contacting me to ask what’s happening with it.”
The petrol station has been part of the Sandicliffe empire since at least 1948 – with its past even being documented in a series of pictures on Pinterest.
It is currently branded as a BP garage.
A member of staff at Sandicliffe confirmed the plan is to shut the station, and the company is expected to release more details soon.
