Shortage of drivers disrupts East Midlands Trains services

East Midlands Trains has apologised after a shortage of drivers meant it had to cancel services and lay on replacement buses.

The company said the problem on Sunday, December 27, was “short-term” and advised all passengers to check before travel.

The firm had previously said it expected to run a normal Sunday service on the date.

A spokesman for the company  said: “We are very sorry for the inconvenience that some customers may experience when travelling with us this Sunday.

“Due to a short-term issue with driver availability, we are unable to run our full Sunday timetable.

“We have worked hard to provide as many services as possible and we will be providing extra carriages on the trains that are running.

“We will also be running replacement bus services on some of the routes where we cannot operate train services and will be arranging for other train operators to accept our tickets.”

Seven services were cancelled and replaced by buses between Nottingham and Derbyshire alone.
