Watch: Highlights of Nottinghamshire Pride 2017

Organisers at the 2017 Nottinghamshire Pride celebration warned the LGBT community must still fight for equal rights.

The annual festival of music and colour sees thousands of people taking to the streets in for what is seen as the East Midlands’ biggest pride event.

Besides a street party to remember in the heart of Hockley area, this year the crowd were also marking the 50th anniversary of homosexuality being partly decriminalised in Britain.

“Yes we have a lot of equal rights now, and a lot of equality under the law, but it doesn’t take much for that the change,” said organiser Craig Martin.

“We’ve seen that in America this week with transgender people no longer being able to serve in the military and it doesn’t take a lot for people to make these retrograde steps – that’s why we still need to keep the pressure on.”

Catherine Conchar, of Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust, added: “Nottinghamshire is not called Queen of the East Midlands for nothing – we’re one of the most vibrant lesbian, gay bi and trans cities.”
