Woman jailed following series of burglaries in Notts

A woman has been jailed for six years after carrying out a number of burglaries targeted at elderly people.

Lorraine Saunders, of Towny Court, Top Valley, would gain access to the properties of her victims by claiming she was a nurse who was coming to care for them.

Once inside the property, the 41-year-old would steal jewellery and cash before booking a taxi and fleeing from the property.

Saunders carried out her first offence back in November 2014 and preyed on two more victims in January this year.

Police were able to use voice recognition to identity Saunders from the calls she had made to taxis and officers listening recognised her voice as a result of previous convictions she has for similar offences.

Investigating officer DC Rob Spry said: “This woman preyed on vulnerable, elderly victims and the severity of the sentence shows how serious a crime this is.

“I would like to thank all the officers and the members of the public who helped us with the case, especially the victims, who have demonstrated great courage, and the taxi company in helping us to collate the evidence which has convicted Saunders.”
